Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP)
Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation (UVR).
Patients with XP develop numerous skin lesions and dry skin when exposed to sunlight, with a significantly higher risk of developing skin cancer compared to the general population (reportedly 2000 times higher than normal skin). More than half of XP patients also experience neurological symptoms, and the disorder is commonly observed in the Japanese population.
XP is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner and occurs in both sexes. While there is no definitive cure, UV protection is crucial for managing this disease.
Early diagnosis and vigilant sun protection can help prevent skin cancer.

色素性乾皮症とは
色素性乾皮症（XP）は、紫外線（UVR）に対する極度の感受性を特徴とする稀な遺伝性疾患である。
XP患者は、日光に当たると多数の皮膚病変と乾燥肌を発症し、皮膚癌の発症リスクは一般集団に比べて著しく高い（正常皮膚の2000倍と報告されている）。
また、XP患者の半数以上に神経症状がみられ、日本人に多くみられる疾患である。
XPは常染色体劣性遺伝し、男女ともに発症する。
決定的な治療法はないが、この病気を管理するには紫外線対策が重要である。
